Brahmaputra Grand Hotel

Lhasa

Even if you’re not in the market for showy five-star digs, it’s worth investing ¥10 in a cab ride out to this opulent hotel in the east of town. Occupying a space somewhere between Vegas theme hotel and ethnographic museum, the Brahmaputra has hundreds of exhibits, from antique opera masks to armour and historic B&W photographs, in its free 2nd-floor museum.

The rooms themselves are nothing special and quite overpriced, unless you get a good deal through your agency. The distance from the old town can be a drag if you are actually staying here.
