On the periphery of gentrified Wudadao, this tiny, no-frills noodles joint is an English-free zone, but serves up delicious, filling bowls of noodles, washed down with ice-cold bottles of Harbin beer (¥5). The speciality is bǎn miàn (板面, hand-chopped noodles in a soup), but we particularly like the rè gān miàn (热干面, fried noodles with crunchy beansprouts and peanuts).
They also do Beijing's famous zhá jiàng miàn (炸酱面, pork and veg noodles in black-bean sauce), and niúròu tāng mǐxiàn (牛肉汤米线, beef rice-noodle soup).
