Xinjiang Restaurant

Shanghai

The decor is full-on kitsch at this upstairs Uyghur restaurant, but you can feed an army on the whole roast lamb, or simply settle down to some tasty dàpánjī (a spicy stew of chicken, peppers and potatoes). There's also fresh yoghurt, plov (mutton pilaf), lamb kebabs, onion-laced tiger salad and naan. The Xinjiang black beer hits the spot.

Things start hopping when the keyboard music kicks in and dancers start twirling.
