Din Tai Fung

Top choice in Shanghai

This busy Taiwan-owned restaurant chain may still be peddling its ‘Top 10 restaurants of the world’ mantra after a two-decades-old review in the New York Times, but it does deliver some absolutely scrummy Shanghai xiǎolóngbāo dumplings. Not the cheapest in town, but they’re delicate, flavoursome and worth every yuan.

Service is top-notch and you can watch chefs prepare your dumplings through sheet glass on arrival, where you'll also see pictures of Tom Cruise giving the thumbs up.
