The world's first underground hotel, this architectural feat transformed an abandoned quarry lake into a luxury resort. Everything overlooks the water-filled surrounds – except the executive rooms, which are actually beneath the lake's surface, and feature saltwater aquariums and an evening water show. However, its location in Songjiang is quite far – it's a minimum 90 minutes from People's Sq on the metro.
The underwater restaurant, Mr Fisher, has good seafood. There is also a spa, the InterContinental Club lounge and the Quarry Bar, where you can detox and intoxicate respectively. You can also take part in activities such as kayaking and rock climbing. You'll need to get a taxi here from the metro station.
