Just perusing the lobby landscape, with its traditional Chinese paintings and vast overhead screen swarming with hypnotic patterns, is a diversion in culture-lite Pudong. Feng-shui-arranged rooms are both gorgeous and spacious, and feature a strong accent on traditional Chinese aesthetics with a modern twist.

Rooms come with lovely bathrooms, hardwood floors and coffee machines. Service is prompt and assuring, and an array of fine restaurants rounds it all out. Discounts are good, but book ahead.
