Tribe of Diaomin

Guangdong

A bicycle club has brought to life an ancient building, revived as a boutique hostel. Tiled private rooms have soft-lighting, flat-screen TVs, air purifiers and some views of the lush surrounding village; dorms feel like classrooms with wooden beds and high ceilings. Spacious common areas, a bar and restaurant all feature exposed beams and retro-China antiques.

You can rent one of the 100-plus bikes for a full day of sightseeing with provided maps for ¥50 to ¥80.

The hostel was once in Chikan but years-long renovations there prompted the move. The owners are uncertain if they will reopen a branch in Chikan in the future.
