Motel 168

Guangzhou

This chain hotel is plusher than the norm and the best value near Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street. Diffused lighting, wall-mounted TV panels, and bathrooms with dark faux-tiles and deep washbasins hint at designer digs. Large blackout curtains and a self-service laundry room are practical plusses. English-speaking front desk staff are the friendliest around.

Ask for a windowless back corner room for some quiet. They feel more spacious than they sound. Prices rise slightly on Friday and Saturday.
