Ganzhou Hotel

Top choice in Gansu

Running since 1971, this excellent hotel combines hardworking and very friendly staff with a very central location just south of the Bell and Drum Tower. The cheapest rooms are not so big, but are fine, otherwise you can upgrade to a huge twin for ¥188 or nab a suite for just ¥248. Rooms are comfortable and wi-fi is good.

The slightly smarter VIP block on the far side of the compound was undergoing refurbishment at the time of writing, but will have slightly more expensive rooms. Breakfast is Chinese-style in an impeccably clean dining room, with coffee served.
