A mandatory tour-group stop, this six-storey temple of retail contains acres of clothing, shoes, handbags and electronics – much of it counterfeit and of variable quality. It's worth remembering that, while fake can be fun, the ethics of purchasing are questionable. Mixed in with everything else are cashmere, silk scarves, souvenirs, toys, tailors and the unintentionally hilarious 'I <3 BJ' T-shirt. Haggle freely.
Formerly known as the Silk Market, Silk Street is more civilised these days, with places to sit down and have a coffee, ice cream or beer amid the booths, as well as massage areas for the retail weary, and even bubble tea. The top-floor food court was undergoing renovation at time of research.
