If you're within 100km of Osorno and a beer lover, you'll want to readjust your itinerary to visit this improvised temple of suds, the south's most interesting craft brewery, located 12km outside of Osorno on Ruta 215 toward Entre Lagos and the border with Argentina.
Bavarian transplant Armin Schmid brews refreshing, unfiltered Märzen, Bock, Dunkel and IPA (and Pils in summer) in a private home and serves them in a wonderful makeshift frontyard biergarten. There is requisite German food (bratwurst, leberkäse, tasty cast-iron spätzle) and surprisingly good thin-crust pizzas.
To find it, head out on Ruta 215 from Osorno. Shortly after the small village of Las Lumas, look for it on the right-hand side of the road – it's announced by a small, easy-to-miss sign flanked by blue-and-white checkered Bavarian flags. An Uber costs CH$3800 to CH$5100 from the city center; or any Entre Lagos–bound micro can drop you as well (CH$700; last bus 9:30pm). Prost!
