Founded in 1902 and boasting the accolade of being the oldest active symphony orchestra in Canada, the internationally recognized Orchestre Symphonique de Québec has performed for more than 100,000 people a year. Concerts are usually broadcast on the radio by public broadcaster Radio Canada. Led by music director Fabien Gabel since 2012, the orchestra is also active in the community.
It holds an annual competition for young Québec musicians that awards cash prizes as well as the opportunity to perform as a soloist with the orchestra.
