Cree Village Ecolodge

Northern Ontario

Cree Village claims to be the northern hemisphere's first indigenous owned and operated lodge. With windows gazing at the tree-lined Moose River, the A-frame building was designed and furnished to reflect traditional Cree values. Its environmentally conscious design extends to the organic wool and cotton used in the carpets and bed linen, organic soaps in every room, and composting toilets.

Dinner beneath the rafters of the shaapuhtuwaan (great hall) is a cozy experience, and guests have access to a fridge and microwave. The lodge is a great base for organizing activities on the island, from canoe rentals to trips to James Bay.
