Le Mal Necessaire

Old Montréal

For some of the tastiest cocktails in Montréal, look for the neon-lit green pineapple and descend the stairs to this vaguely tiki-inspired bar hidden along pedestrian-filled St Laurent. Fruity elixirs are tops here – especially the Abacaxi mai tai, served in a pineapple – whipped up by friendly, chatty bartenders.

You can also order pork dumplings, General Tao chicken and other simple dishes off the menu – it comes from the no-nonsense Chinese restaurant upstairs (available until 11pm).
