Up the Creek Backpackers B&B

British Columbia

Run by a round-the-world cyclist, Up the Creek has incorporated all the best facets of a classic hostel: a place where you can relax but still meet people and feel at home. Take your pick from small dorms, private rooms aimed at couples and families, a back-garden cabin and a tent pitch in the grounds ($15).

They'll even rent you a two-person tent if you've left yours at home ($28). The small shared kitchen is well equipped and there's an active eco approach including rigorous recycling.

Cyclists are welcomed and public transport users actively encouraged. They offer free loaner bikes (helmets included) if you fancy exploring Roberts Creek’s network of quiet lanes and cycling trails on your own.
