Built in 1895 by businessman Alexander MacDonald, this gabled mansion will be immediately familiar to Anne of Green Gables fans – it featured in the TV series as the White Sands Hotel. It's a sprawling, old-fashioned affair: Adirondack armchairs, huge fireplaces, an enormous dining room and a choice of fusty rooms or self-contained two-room cabins on the hotel's lavishly lawned grounds.
