Atlas Coal Mine

Home to the last wooden tipple (a coal-loading structure) in Canada, Atlas Coal Mine closed its production in 1959. Today it's an engaging historic sight where you can check out the original mine buildings and chat with staff dressed as mine characters. Join an hourly tour to climb the tipple, don a lamp and head down a tunnel – or to learn about the darker, unmentionable side of mining.
