Santuário de Caaró

Rio Grande do Sul

About 20km west of São Miguel, the Santuário de Caaró is the place where the region’s spiritual history is most alive. A modest monument honors three priests who were killed by bandeirantes in 1626. One of the victims, Roque González, has been canonized. This site attracts a stream of pilgrims, especially in November, around the anniversary of St Roque’s martyrdom.
