Babilônia Rio Hostel

Rio de Janeiro

Uphill from Leme, this place has five dorm rooms and two private rooms, including one much sought-after chamber (Quarto Vidigal) with air-conditioning and a veranda with sea view. It's a friendly place in a small, welcoming community and there are good eating and drinking options nearby.

It's an easy 10-minute stroll downhill to the beach, but an uphill challenge on the return – take a mototaxi to save those hamstrings.
