Casa Paladino

Rio de Janeiro

Going strong since 1906, this frozen-in-time delicatessen is lined with bottles, canned goods and other preserves. The attached restaurant serves Paladino's famed sandwiches, like the triplo (pastrami, egg and melted cheese), and fluffy omelets with ingredients including cod, squid and octopus. It all goes nicely with an ice-cold draft beer.

Paladino is liveliest in the early evenings with its after-work crowd.
