About Jacqui

Jacqui Gibson is a New Zealand travel writer and Lonely Planet guidebook contributor based in Wellington. Traveling since she was an 18-year-old solo backpacker, she's spent decades exploring the world as a writer. Pressed to name her favorite destination, New Zealand's Subantarctic Islands come out on top. Her much loved grandfather, Ken, visited the islands under sail in the 80s. She followed in his footsteps in 2024 (albeit on a small cruise ship) and is now keen to head even further south to Antarctica. What's the draw south for this award-winning travel writer? The seabirds, the isolation and the story potential that results from the incomparable thrill of the Southern Ocean.
