Run by a family of expat Brits, Gurneys is an impressive, hands-on team of cider-makers who are passionate about producing real dry English ciders. Everything is made on-site using 30 types of apples that grow in its orchards. Tasting paddles are available ($10 to $14), or you can buy cider by the bottle to enjoy the pastoral views with a produce platter (from $22).
It produces seven ciders, all unfiltered and unpasteurised, with some interesting varietals, including a hopped cider, a wild yeast and the Scrumpy, which uses wild apples from the region. It also does a hand-riddled méthode traditionelle sparkling cider that's aged for 15 months.
A 10-minute drive from Fish Creek, just outside Foster, it's situated along the Great Southern Rail Trail. It often closes in winter, so call ahead to check that it's open.
