Halcyon House

Top choice in Byron Bay & Northern NSW

This former surfers' motel has kept its vintage curves to become one of east-coast Australia's most lauded boutique hotel and spas. The location is idyllic, nestled just back from the beach in a sea of pandanus, while the decor and blue and white colour palette is whimsical-meets-Hamptons luxury. Borrow a Byron-made surfboard and hit the waves out front.

Rooms have king-sized beds, organic toiletries and balconies that look over the pool or the ocean, and the free minibars are stocked with local beers and treats. Daily à la carte breakfast at its award-winning Paper Daisy restaurant is included. Halcyon Spa uses Sodashi products, and offers everything from massages ($150 for one hour) to a Halcyon Day of Youth treatment ($495 for five hours). There's a unique steam room for use by spa guests, too.

Halcyon House is located in the laid-back beach town of Cabarita, around a 20-minute drive south of Tweed Heads.
