Mantra MacArthur Hotel

Canberra

Handily just off Northbourne Ave, this four-star hotel is in a reconditioned 1970s building, though the luxurious refit makes this heritage unrecognisable once you're inside. The modish mantra look has been applied to 130-plus affordable studio rooms. All rooms are comfortably appointed; suites include a kitchenette for self-catering.

For families or larger groups, the two-bedroom suites include an interconnecting door so you can stretch out a little more. Downstairs the Mediterranean-inspired restaurant does good tapas with a Greek feel.
