Chilo Gorge Safari Lodge

Top choice in Zimbabwe

With its stunning elevated location overlooking the Save River, safari lodges really don't get much better than this. All of its luxurious stilted thatched chalets open up to river views, allowing you to spot game from your balcony. The staff is friendly and features a team of crack guides.

It also has an atmospheric bush camp inside the park, with the idea to spend a night at the camp in addition to the chalets.

Food is a highlight, served outdoors on its deck next to the pool, and there are also self-catering lodges in the property next door. Activities include a range of game drives, walks and trips to visit Shangaan communities. The lodge was founded by well-respected conservationist Clive Stockil (along with his artist wife, Lin) who grew up with the Shangaan and is fluent in the language.

It's located just outside the northern edge of the park. They remain open during the rainy season, a fascinating time to visit when the park transforms into landscapes of lush greens.
