Tavern Law

Seattle

Named for the 1832 law that legalized drinking in public bars and saloons, Tavern Law is one of Seattle's most sought-after high-end cocktail bars (they call them 'libations' here). It's themed like a speakeasy – or, at least, a romanticized version of a speakeasy, as such establishments were never this plush.

Expect bar staff with styled hair and wearing waistcoats shaking and stirring up a storm. The small food plates ($7 to $24) have a large fan base, especially the smokey mac 'n' cheese.
