Shake Shack

Union Square, Flatiron District & Gramercy

The flagship of chef Danny Meyer’s gourmet burger chain (this is where it all started – in a hot-dog cart), Shake Shack whips up hyper-fresh burgers, hand-cut fries and a rotating line-up of frozen custards. Vegetarians can dip into the crisp portobello burger. Lines are long – but worth it – and you can eat while people-watching at tables and benches in the park.

Its breakfast menu is all about egg-based fillings stuffed into its trademark potato buns: a bit like a posh McDonald's. As with Danny Meyer's other eateries, hospitality is included so no tips are needed.
