Jane Hotel

West Village, Chelsea & Meatpacking District

The Jane’s 50-sq-ft rooms are undeniably snug, but if you have the sea in your blood, check into this renovated red-brick gem, built for mariners in 1908 (Titanic survivors stayed here in 1912). The lobby is all pale-green antique tiles, stag's heads, peacocks and liveried bellboys, while the gorgeous ballroom-bar looks like it belongs in a five-star hotel.

The cheaper rooms have bunk beds and shared bathrooms, while the more expensive 'captain’s cabins' come with private commodes.
