Luella's Southern Kitchen

Top choice in Chicago

You could easily walk right by this modest storefront without realizing the rich, buttery glory that awaits inside. The chef reworks his great-grandmother Luella's recipes that she brought from Mississippi when she came to Chicago in the 1940s. There's chunky shrimp in creamy grits, fluffy buttermilk biscuits, and chicken and waffles with bourbon-tinged maple syrup. It's a BYOB, counter-service ambience.
