Del Mar’s biggest draw during summer months was founded in 1937 by a prestigious group which included Bing Crosby. It’s worth trying to brave the crowds on opening day (tickets from $10), if nothing else to see the amazing spectacle of ladies wearing over-the-top hats. The rest of the season, enjoy the visual perfection of the track’s lush gardens and pink, Mediterranean-style architecture.
On opening day, the racetrack runs free double-decker shuttle buses to and from the Solana Beach train station.
