Liwan Hotel

Top choice in Eastern Mediterranean

This 1920s eclectic building was once owned by the president of Syria and contains 24 tastefully furnished (though smallish) rooms across four floors; there's a lift. Room 104 looks to the main street and has a small balcony. For those who adore old-timer hotels, there's bucketloads of atmosphere to lap up here.

Due to the quirky nature of the room set-up, not all rooms have windows, so check when you book. The 1st-floor restaurant (mains ₺30 to ₺60) is in an open courtyard – once an internal garden with ogee arches – that is covered in chillier months.
