This 1899 casa de indianos is one of approximately 20 such elaborate mansions in the Villar district, 1.5km southeast (uphill) from Luarca, all commissioned by locals who made fortunes in Latin America. It’s now a comfy 12-room hotel dripping with belle-époque elegance and backed by gorgeous period-style gardens. Antique furniture and chandeliers bring warmth to the understated, high-ceilinged rooms.

There are also four new-build apartments, a hot tub, a summer-season pool, an on-site bar and even a private chapel.
