Real Balneario de Salinas

Top choice in Asturias

Serious food lovers: head to the beach at Salinas, 5.5km northwest of central Avilés. The beachside Real Balneario, opened as a bathing centre by King Alfonso XIII in 1916, is today a top seafood restaurant. Choose from traditional or creative ‘new proposal’ dishes, plus some very tempting desserts. The bogavante (giant crayfish/mini-lobster) flambé is a current favourite; the long-standing speciality is champagne sea bass.

You can work up an appetite with a walk to the scenic headland at the west end of the beach.
