This remarkable, English-run spot, in a beautiful valley 3km north of Arriondas, is not only a charming 12-room rural retreat and a wonderful walking base, but also a working organic farm. Design and decor emphasise local art and artistry, and all rooms have valley views. Excellent breakfasts (€9) and four-course dinners (€28; nonguests by reservation only) always include vegetarian options.

Detailed information on many self-guided walks is provided in folders and on the Posada website, and the hosts can help you set up a host of other activities from birdwatching to horse riding. It's just past Collía village on the AS342.
