Behind an attractive art-nouveau facade, Hotel Elizabeth (built in 1902) has high-ceilinged, business-chic rooms, in a neutral palette with swish modern bathrooms. Other luxuries are the outdoor terrace, fabulous restaurant, plus a pool and spa (€15) offering good-value wellness treatments (from €13). Special website offers bring room rates crashing down.
The decor has some ancient Roman flourishes, a nod to the Roman inscription behind the hotel; ask at reception to see it.
The restaurant (mains €10 to €28) is worth visiting in its own right, with masterfully cooked Italian-inflected dishes: duck with parmesan polenta is a highlight, and the steaks are excellent too.
