There's a charm to this 1970s-style parade of shops, with their windows glittering with rows of 22-carat gold bangles, wedding necklaces and headdresses. Some shops sell traditional Salalah silver, but today's silversmiths, once famous in Dhofar, now mostly make bespoke jewellery. Some Bedouin silver is on offer, as well as rings set with semi-precious stones – for Omani men, who wear silver, not gold.
