This ingenious upmarket ecolodge has no electricity, no running water, alfresco showers and composting toilets. The beachside accommodation in specially designed ‘adobe bandas’ made from local materials might not suit everyone, but those who want to see northern Mozambique’s coastal paradise while learning about community-development initiatives will gain an interesting (and not uncomfortable) insight.
Situated inside the Quirimbas National Park, the lodge offers island excursions, dhow safaris, visits to the village school and other community initiatives. It’s about 15km south of Mucojo junction; transfers can be arranged from Pemba and Macomia.
