Villa Verde

Marrakesh

This stylish and immaculately clean budget hotel has been cleverly kitted out to look like a riad, with wooden shutters, zellige (colourful geometric tilework) and a courtyard of potted palms. The Moroccan owner and his staff hail from the southern deserts near Merzouga, and they also run tours there. Room configurations will suit groups, solo travellers and families, and there's direct road access.

Breakfasts are as good as what you'd get in a high-end riad, served at cushion-strewn sofas on Villa Verde's vintage-inspired roof terrace.
