Mopti has been crying out for a mid-range hotel like this. A delightful French- and Dogon-run place, Ya Pas de Probleme has beautifully decorated rooms, an intimate and homely atmosphere and represents top value across a range of budgets.
In addition to the spacious rooms - which come in a range of styles, each of which is terrific value for money - there's a terrace restaurant, a large and pleasant dorm and more rooms planned in the extension they're building next door. The mattresses on the roof have mosquito nets, while the decoration on the walls of the rooms (handicrafts and textiles produced by local artisans) are all for sale - the proceeds go directly to the artisans. The public areas have soft lighting that produces an ambience that is classy and homely in equal measure. Touts, guides and salesmen are also kept outside the gates, which helps explain why the Ya Pas de Probleme is fast becoming the number-one traveller hangout in Mopti. It could also have something to do with the fact that the owners, Olivier, Jean Marie and Ousman, are wonderful hosts.
