Tungog Rainforest Eco Camp

Sabah

This eco camp faces a pretty oxbow lake by the Kinabatangan River. Luxurious it isn't – expect wooden shelters with mattress, fragrant sheets and pillows, plus a mosquito net and shared bathrooms; however, the immersion in nature and chance to put something back by planting trees is magical. River cruises per boat cost RM95 or per person RM40 (minimum three people).

On the road between Sandakan and Lahad Datu, ask the bus driver to drop you at the Kinabatangan bridge, from where you catch a boat to the camp. The office of KOPEL Ltd, which manages the camp, is located under the Kinabatangan bridge. Book ahead.
