Domwe Island Adventure Camp

Top choice in Malawi

Domwe is the smaller and more rustic of Kayak Africa's two neighbouring island lodges, run on solar power and romantically lit by paraffin lamps. It’s self-catering, with furnished safari tents, kitchen, shared eco-showers and composting toilets. It has a bar and a beautiful staggered dining area, open to the elements and set among boulders. Food can be provided on request.

It costs US$30 per booking to be dropped off or picked up at the island. Alternatively, you can kayak the 5km from Cape Maclear; kayaks (US$30 per day) and snorkel gear can be hired on the mainland and the island. For a multiday expedition on the water, you could kayak 7km from Domwe to Mumbo Island Camp for a night, before returning to the mainland (10km).
