Uegusuku Castle Ruins

Okinawa & the Southwest Islands

Perched atop the island's highest peak, at an elevation of around 310m, are the meticulously placed crumbling stone walls of what was once the stronghold of the ruling Kume lord, before the 16th century. Views from the tiered levels of the former castle, looking out over the East China Sea, and the whole of Kume-jima, are nothing short of spectacular.
