Café Batavia

Jakarta

This 200-year-old building overlooking Kota's old Dutch quarter pulls crowds. It certainly looks the part, with its classy bistro styled with colonial decor, old parlour floors, marble tabletops and art deco furnishings. There are better places to eat around the square, but for ambience you've hit the jackpot. The large menu offers Asian and Western dishes, and an old-world bar for cocktails.

The jazz soundtrack adds to the atmosphere, and there's live music in the evenings and on Saturday afternoon.
