Hotel Atitlán

Top choice in Panajachel

A coffee plantation for much of the 20th century, this estate was remade as Pana's loveliest hotel in the 1970s. Located on the lakeshore 1.5km northwest of the town center, it's a rambling, semicolonial affair surrounded by manicured tropical gardens.

The 60 rooms all have lake-facing balconies; decor goes heavy on religious imagery, wood carvings and wrought iron. A restaurant, bar and lakefront pool with killer volcano views ensure you'll never want to leave the premises, except perhaps on one of the hotel's kayaks.
