Erstwhile home of Heinrich Toppler, one of Rothenburg's most famous medieval mayors (the dining room was his office), the 700-year-old Golden Griffin is the locals' choice in the touristy centre. A hearty menu of Franconian favourites is served in an austere semimedieval setting and out back in the sunny and secluded garden. There's also a long kids' menu, a rarity in Bavaria.
