Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel

This triumphal arch, erected by Napoléon to celebrate his battlefield successes of 1805, rises from the Jardin du Carrousel, the gardens immediately next to the Louvre. The eastern counterpoint to the more famous Arc de Triomphe, it is one of several monuments that comprise the axe historique (historical axis), which terminates with the statue of Louis XIV next to the Pyramide du Louvre.
