Hotelli Seurahuone

Helsinki

Dating from 1833, this seurahuone (club room) was a meeting place for high society, where visiting officers, gentlemen and ladies came to stay, and a venue for concerts and dances in its ballroom. The building remains a classic, with period fittings and stately rooms in black and gold, many with views over Rautatientori. Unusually for Finland, there’s no sauna.
