Hare Inn

Top choice in North York Moors National Park

The phrase 'hidden gem' is overused, but here it is entirely appropriate – drowsing in a secluded hamlet 4 miles west of Helmsley, the Hare is a 21st-century restaurant in a 13th-century inn, where gourmet dining is relaxed, informal and even fun. There's no à la carte, just a seasonal tasting menu – and only seven tables; bookings must be made in advance.

At the time of writing the owners were also adding a pair of guest rooms, due to be completed in early 2019.
