Courtyard by Marriot

Shanghai

This hotel's most distinctive feature is the lit-up, gold-trimmed temple atop its modern tower block. It's a reasonable option for those wanting a more upmarket stay in the Xuhui District. Rooms are decorated with neutral tones and gaudy carpets; larger rooms come with whirlpool bathtubs. The service is good, and there's a nice oblong-shaped indoor pool.

The temple on the top floor (formerly a bar) is currently closed.
