Kafka's has more MacBooks than an Apple Store courtesy of the locals who fill the tables here, silently updating their social media statuses as if their lives depended on it. But, despite appearances, this is a warm and welcoming hangout. The single-origin coffee is excellent and there's a serious commitment to local artworks on the walls; it's like quaffing in a cool gallery.

All the art is for sale, making this the perfect spot to pick up a unique Vancouver souvenir that beats anything you'll find in the usual places. If you're lucky, you might even meet the artist supping an espresso in the corner and trying to look nonchalant.
